Nowadays, aliens or extraterrestrials are not part in the mainstream news and the information about them is likely to end up under paranormal topic. Whatever the news about extraterrestrials, it never affected the way people live and the economy contrary to the political, social and economic happenings. However, paranormal followers speculated that alien arrival would likely affect the economy and the way people see or perceive things. Market outcomes would vary as to what kind of aliens would visit Earth.

Among the famous possible assumptions on alien arrival are that hostile aliens will wipe out humanity, aliens will help solve human conflicts without interfering directly, and aliens will help solve global conflicts and will actively impose their beliefs, ways and customs to humanity.
The first scenario, which involves hostile extraterrestrials, considers the possibility that aliens may develop cost-efficient method to wipe out humanity such as by spreading virus. This scenario centers on the theory that extraterrestrials are more experience on how to achieve their goals easier than using violent means because of their ability to travel through space across the galaxy. Given the scenario, the primary goal for humanity would be survival and markets would likely to collapse or even stop to function. Aliens would likely shut down all sorts of communications such as computers and telephones. The possible outcome on this scenario is contrary to what Paul Krugman suggested that an alien invasion would create economic recovery. Most likely, humanity will panic and disorder within the society would happen that could cause shut down in commerce and the markets.

The second scenario involving higher intelligence extraterrestrials looking to guide humanity into an absolute peace, growth and prosperity is popularize by Arthur C. Clarke in his novel “Childhood’s End.” Peaceful extraterrestrials are known as the Overlords in his novel but they never appeared before humans, they just stayed in the space ships hovering above. At start, the markets would probably go down as initial panic affect the investment. Eventually it will go up again upon knowing that the aliens are here to promote peace and prosperity. However, the strength of the markets would go down again because based on the novel, innovations and creativity would decline.

In the last scenario where aliens would actively help humans to stop global conflicts by imposing their ways, customs and beliefs; there is a good possibility that the markets would react extremely well as soon as humans would learn that aliens are here to help and not a threat at all. Entrepreneurs would see the potential of alien visitors as a source of revenue and/or resources. Technology would most likely to develop further and optimism would create healthy markets where sense of balance might be restored. However, the last scenario could decline common morality because of the possible collapse of religion. Even though the arrival of such extraterrestrials would create sense of security, it is still possible that panic would happen as humanity becomes suspicious of the alien visitors. The panic would eventually develop to desperation and/or mass hysteria as humanity would likely have difficulty to negotiate with the aliens because of lack of intelligent uniqueness in the universe. Some people would even stop working because of a feeling of temporal earthly meaningless. The new perspective on the universe might affect the humans’ behavior in buying and selling both products and services.
